The world’s tallest building has been opened with a dramatic fireworks ceremony in the Gulf emirate of Dubai.
The Burj Khalifa was revealed to be 828m (2,716ft) high, far taller than the previous record holder, Taipei 101.
The tower also lays claim to the highest occupied floor, the tallest service lift, and the world’s highest observation deck – on the 124th floor.
The world’s highest mosque and swimming pool will meanwhile be located on the 158th and 76th floors.
At 828m, Burj Khalifa dwarfs the 508m Taipei 101 and the 629m KVLY-TV mast in the US, the tallest man-made structure. Its spire can been seen 95km (60 miles) away.
Burj Khalifa is an impressive structure to all who have been a part of it in the construction stage especially those Filipino engineers, quality controllers, architects and skilled workers. Some of them have been involved also in the construction of the Taipie 101 Tower and the Petronas Tower.
Some Filipinos who are involved in the construction of the world’s tallest building are as follows:
1. Federico de Villa, a Filipino quality control engineer, said his company is one of the contractors handling the external landscaping and expertise. “The washroom is a beauty in itself, it being inlaid with marble and granite in a very intricate design. It is definitely one of a kind. The ambience is not conventional as it is a landscaping combination of hand landscape using natural stones.”
2. Mani Kandasamy, site engineer, talks about the beautiful design done by a Chicago-based company, which demonstrates sophistication that is not affected by the global economic downturn. “Even the chairman’s washroom exhibits this as it is embellished with sophisticated aluminum claddings.”
3. Engr. Jun Oyales
4. Engr. Antonio Salazar
5. Engr. Christine Bayona
There are almost 100 Filipino workers involved in the construction, some of them have been involved also in the construction of the two previous tallest buildings the Taipie 101 and the Petronas Tower of Malaysia. Most of them are involved in Site Engineers, Quality Control Engineers, Architects and SKilled workers.
Really an amazing feat, Filipinos once again proved to the world that Filipinos are one of the builders of modern society…
Truly an achiever…
